Preperation

Students and faculty members today perpetuate poor preperation simply by not coming prepared. Students may not come prepared by not only bring the correct supplies to class or so but also by not ready to give their attention to what they are suppose to be learning. Faculty members may not be prepared by ending class to short or allowing the class to go out of control.

The Death Pentaly

After reading and listening to many thoughts and opinions on Dead Man Walking and the death penalty itself it has been something that has really caught my attention. I actually wrote a paper on it in my rhetoric class. Basically, I think it should be illegal. I do not believe in the death penalty, I think it just another way of instilling the thought that violence is ok. I know there is a difference between murder and execution but the bottom line is in the end your ending someones life. Whether its justice or madness, killing is killing and its wrong.

Living Without Fear

Tierney Cahill inspiring message had a deep impact on me and the audience. She proved to her sixth grade class the importance of democracy. She explained to the audience and her young students how important it is that their voice in the government is crucial and she also taught them the true meaning of democracy. This is important and beneficial to the children to get involved with their government and it is also a great way of having them learn about and understand the government. She proved that one person can really make an impact in the world today. There is something that I havent necessarily been afraid but should make more of an effort doing, that is meeting new people and conversing with them.

The Economy

I think the down turn on the economy today will affect me. Now that we have Barack Obama as the new president we will start to see change for the better. I think that the economy will come through and start to seem more reasonable. The aspects of the economy that most apply to me today would be gas prices, taxes, social security, healthcare, etc. For the past couple of years I have came to the realization that I should be more cautious with my financial situation. I need to start saving and spending less on things I don't need.

Alcohol

Why do college students feel the need to drink?

There are three main reasons why I think colleges students feel the need to drink.

1. Others are doing it, whether it's friends, teammates, or random people at a party.
2. Like the feeling of being buzzed/drunk. Some might say it makes them more socialable or gives them "liquid confidence".
3. Depression

Mountain Day

Mountain Day is something that makes Lees-McRae unique. It is a celebration of our heritage and surrounding enviroment. It's important that Lees-McRae continues doing this and keeping the tradition alive because we are a college surrounded by the mountains and there is a lot of history behind them. Mountain Day is also fun because it's a great way to bring everyone together as one and share something special. Meeting new people, enjoying great food, and taking part in some fun activities is just slice of the pie on Mountain Day.

Below you will find a picture of myself and a very good friend, Daniel Ives, after a morning jog up one of the many mountains here at Lees-McRae.
